Indigenous ecological knowledge can tell us much about the ecology of northern Australia.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Australia’s First Scientists, have always held a deep understanding of the seasons, and of how to tell when seasons are changing.

Six Indigenous language groups in the Top End worked with CSIRO seasonal calendars. These can be seen in the map below linked from the CSIRO website about the Indigenous seasonal calendars.
