Permit System

The Director of National Parks uses a permit system to help regulate some activities within Kakadu. Permits aim to achieve several objective, some are related to health and safety such as:

  • maximise park visitor safety
  • encourage responsible behaviour in the park
  • ensure that commercial and other park users are accountable for their actions
  • separate potentially conflicting activities.

The attached application form provides details on the conditions that need to be met in order run a commercial land based tour in Kakdu. Safety considerations are included through out the application documentation, including information such as:

  • Specifying that activities will not endanger public safety
  • Ensuring guides must receive training that covers visitor safety
  • Ensuring the safety responsibilities of the permittees are well understood
  • Ensuring that guides are educated and tested about crocodile safety.
