Introduction
Welcome to Kakadu Knowledge for Tour Guides. This short course aims to satisfy two goals:
- Provide online, entry level tour guide training for tour guides working in Kakadu National Park, and;
- Provide online training for three nationally recognised units of competency from Australia’s Tourism, Travel and Hospitality training package, which can be transferred to further study in vocational education.
This eBook is more than a textbook. It is a collection of information and links that provide an extensive introduction to Kakadu National Park and the knowledge and skills required to guide tours. This short course offers opportunity to learn by reading the information as directed by the eBook and answering series of short quizzes. Your curiosity and inquiry will help you develop an understanding of the required knowledge. It is also important to take note of where and what is reliable and accurate information, and grow your ability to gather, confirm accuracy, and utilise current information from contacts you go on to develop (especially local Indigenous people). The structure of the eBook is in two parts:
- Unit 1 – Interpret aspects of local Australian Indigenous culture
- Unit 2 – Provide visitor information.
- Unit 3 – Participate in safe work practices
The short quizzes are found in Learnline. You can make more than one attempt on the quizzes and they are not timed. Please use this eBook and check any answers you are unsure of before you submit. Answering questions is a great learning exercise, please enjoy.

‘Our land has a big story.
Sometimes we tell a little bit at a time.
Come and hear our stories, see our land.
A little bit might stay in your hearts.
If you want more, you can come back…’
