SITXCCS010 – Provide Visitor Information

11 Kakadu National Park – Visitor Guide

Is the visitor guide (linked below) a credible source of information? Why?

To be a tour guide in Kakadu National Park you need to be familiar with the following visitor guide.

Elements of the Visitor Guide that will be of particular use for this unit include:

  • The seven regions of Kakadu (pages 31-45)
  • Suggested itineraries (page 46)
  • Tours available in the Park (page 27)
  • Visitor Centres (pages 24-25)
  • Map of Kakadu (pages 1-2)

Please read and try to remember as much as you can, and then complete the activities and/or quizzes that follow: https://parksaustralia.gov.au/kakadu/pub/visitor-guide.pdf

Tips and Takeaways

Takeaway:

  • The Visitor Guide is credible because it has been published by National Parks, which has a good, well known reputation. In other words it is more trustworthy than a blog written by an unknown traveller.
  • The Visitor Guide contains the logo of the Australian Government, which if authentic means that the document has most likely gone through a rigorous quality assurance checks.
  • The Visitor Guide shows that it was updated and published in 2017, which means that it is current because it is information on an area that has not changed over many years, so a publication a few years old is appropriate. If it was a newspaper providing information on current issues, then a publication date of 2017 would not be credible.
