1 New educator teaching students in multiple locations

Demonstration, new educator teaching students in multiple locations (Ram)

Context

Ram has newly arrived at CDU and has 3 weeks to prepare for delivering his unit, across multiple campus locations.  Some tutorial sessions will need to be delivered to both on-campus and online students simultaneously (hybrid delivery).

Our educator, Ram, inherited a unit that was organised by 12-weeks of teaching and learning.   The unit site was also bland looking, and pretty much following a textbook, with little student-student and student -teacher interaction.

This higher education unit needs to be delivered to four cohorts of students: (25) in Alice Springs, (15) in the Katherine campus, and an additional 65 students spread between Palmerston (25) and Casuarina campuses (40).  They are not large class sizes but are spread out with a mix of online and on-campus students all however regardless of their location are enrolled in the unit site. Students in previous deliveries of the same unit reported that they wish they had more chances to collaborate with each other.

Ram has a big task to re-organise this unit and group students by location, yet also find ways for them to collaborate both asynchronously and during synchronous mixed face to face and online (hybrid) tutorials.

Your task

Demonstrate how your LMS solution can help Ram to:

  1. Re-organise 12 weeks of learning materials into 4 modules
  2. Show flexibility through drag and drop, or similar re-ordering of content
  3. Allow for pleasing and enjoyable design layout using banners, content links, and table presentation of information, e.g., a table summary of each module and how it links to the learning objectives.
  4. Use the same unit materials but conditionally release certain resources, to each of the four cohorts separately.
  5. Have students work together and with the educator to co-design and publish a Unit Study Guide.
  6. Support student to student collaboration and interaction both asynchronously and synchronously.
