Practical Exercises

Exercise 1: Reaction Time

Aim:

The aim of this simple experiment is to determine your own reaction time by seeing how far a ruler drops before you can catch it. You will first need to take some measurements during the experiment, and then do some basic calculations to work out your approximate reaction time.

Required Materials

For this experiment you will need:

  • A 30 cm ruler
  • paper & pencil to record results

You will also need another person as an assistant

The approximate time you should spend on this practical is 3 hours, including experimentation and report-writing.
