Practical Exercises
Exercise 4: Resistance and Ohm’s Law
Aim:
In this practical, you will become familiar with resistors placed in series, parallel and series-parallel combination. For each circuit you will apply Ohm’s law to calculate current, voltage and resistance and verify by actual measurement, thereby proving that Ohm’s law is true.
You will use the multi-meter for the measurement of resistance (ohms), dc voltage (volts), and dc current (amperes). Make sure you are familiar with how to use a multimeter.
Please be careful in your measurements especially when measuring current!!
Materials:
For this experiment you will need:
- Multimeter (refer to instructions on how to use)
- 9V battery & snap connector
- Resistors
- Leads with alligator clip ends
- Pen or pencil and paper to make notes
