4 Managing communication

Communication is something we all know how to do. When managing projects communications becomes more formalised to ensure all required communiques are completed and the communication process if efficient. Whilst formalising generally improves effectiveness of communication, it is important to not stifle informal communication or choose inappropriate communication styles, modes and mediums. Be aware that often communication needs to be repetitious and the reception and acceptance of the message is what is important, not just the sending of the message.

PMBOK classifies communication into 3 processes:

  1. Planning
  2. Managing
  3. Controlling
