The overall shape of the leaf relates to the position of the widest part of the lamina.

Circular, orbicular, ovate, obovate, lanceolate, etc.

Some leaf shapes may need to be described in more detail:

The Apex relates to the shape of the tip.

The Base relates to how the blade connects to the petiole and the shape of the base.
