62 Weeds

A weed is a plant that is considered undesirable in a particular situation — “a plant in the wrong place”.

  • In the conservation industry a weed can be considered a non-native plant.
  • In the horticultural industry a weed can be considered a plant which reproduces quickly and out competes the desirable plant.
  • In the agricultural industry a weed maybe a plant which has no purpose and competes for water, light and nutrition of desirable plants.
  • In the NT, weeds are either classified as weeds, or not.
  • Different states, towns, areas and countries have varying classification.
  • In Australia, we have 32 weeds which are declared Weeds Of National Significance (WONS)
