Competition: overview

The competition is open to existing and new films which embody the principles of ecological restoration and explore the relationship between people, science, restoration, and the environment. Films may be submitted by both students and professionals in the field of ecological restoration as well as established or emerging filmmakers. We particularly encourage submissions from First Nations and aboriginal peoples from around the world.

Entries close Monday 23rd June, 2025.

Submission Categories:

1)      Student and Ecological Restoration Professional Short films <5 minutes.

2)      Open Category and Established Filmmakers Short films, 2 – 15 minutes.

3)      Open Category and Established Filmmakers Feature films, > 20 minutes.

4)      Open Category – Weaving in Indigenous perspectives, >2 minutes

Selected works will be featured at the SER2025 Conference Film Festival in Denver, Colorado, on Thursday, October 2nd. Reaching an international audience of practitioners, researchers, environmental leaders, and the public. Outstanding submissions will be recognized in three categories, defined below. Finalists will be announced on the night with the winners announced at the end of the festival.

 

Prizes are available for each category, with the winner of each category receiving $1000, and each Runner up receiving $250.
