Story Structure

In this section, you will develop a story arc (or two) for the story you will capture via film, and receive feedback from your peers to help you refine your story.

What is a story arc?

All stories have a beginning, a middle and an end. As the story moves through these phases, the characters often find themselves facing certain situations, decision points, crossroads or things to overcome. These ‘turning points’ can provide clear beats or story points in our story arc. There are some common universal story structures. Some familiar examples include:

Writing the story arcs of potential story ideas are a good method for determining which story you want (or need) to tell. To learn more about story arcs before writing your own, you will read the below web article and watch a number of videos that will help you understand story arcs in more detail.

? Does your story lend itself to any of these story structures? What is the arc of your story

Write and share one or more story arc descriptions that you could use to tell a story of your ecological restoration project. Share these story arcs in a single post in the Padlet below, clearly labelling different story arcs if you have multiple. Read other posted story arcs and provide feedback to help refine their stories, or if they post two story arcs, comment on their posts with which of their two story-arcs you found most interesting and compelling and tell them why. Review comments on your post, and reflect on what it is that your peer audience thinks of your story arc(s), before finalising your story arc and completing this module.
