Keeping ER Principles at the forefront in the Edit
Before you sit down to edit your film, it is a good time to review some key Ecological Restoration principles. It is worth considering to make sure that your film will seek to address some or even all of these in some way. Here are some of the ER principles that we flagged earlier:
ER Principles
- A clear understanding of the natural environment – the original ecosystem and species and habitats that existed prior to degradation or disturbance
- Mimicry of natural processes – does the film portray how the ER project attempts to mimic these natural processes and their implementation
- Prioritisation of native species – how the reintroduction of native plants and into the ecosystem is important; how this contributes to the health of the ecosystem
- Stakeholder involvement – covering how community and stakeholders are part of the planning, implementation and monitoring of the ER project. How is the community involved and why their involvement is crucial for the success of the project
- Monitoring and adapting – how is this carried out to ensure ongoing success?
- Sustainability – covering how the ER project aims to foster a sustainable ecosystem that can self-regulate and adapt.
When you are reviewing and choosing the footage to include in your edit, it is worth keeping these in mind.
