Personal Totems

Personal totems are a way to define who you are and can be used to represent yourself in your STEM journey.   While this guide is drawing on the concept of totems, we acknowledge that this is just a small step on another journey of understanding the deep knowledge system of First Peoples of the land and the importance of totems in Aboriginal culture.

Choosing your totem for this narrative is about choosing an animal that is like you, that represents your skills and interests in some way. For instance if you see yourself as a person who stands up and fights then you might identify with a Kangaroo, if you are cheeky and a trickster you are the Emu, or if you are firm and steady, you are a Rock, but choose a rock you know and like. If you are flighty and variable, flexible, then you are the Wind, but choose a wind in a particular season that behaves a particular way that you identify with.
