A definitive guide to Charles Darwin, but rather detailed and running to 800 pages.

Desmond, A., Moore, J. and Brown, J. 2007. Charles Darwin. Oxford University Press, Oxford.
A short introductory biography by several prominent Darwin scholars. Includes a very detailed bibliography for further research.

Huxley. R. (ed.) 2007. The Great Naturalists. The Natural History Museum, London.
In addition to Darwin, describes the lives of a number of eminent naturalists of the past.

Moorehead, A. 1969. Darwin and the Beagle. Penguin Books, New York.
An interesting illustrated account of the voyage and Darwin’s experiences, told in a conversational style.

Barlow, N. (ed.) 1958. The Autobiography of Charles Darwin 1809-1882.
The autobiographical writings of Charles Darwin edited by a grand-daughter of Charles. The text is available on Darwin Online.  

Darwin, C. 1845. Journal of Researches into the Natural History and Geology of the Countries Visited During the Voyage of H.M.S. Beagle Round the World, Under the Command of Capt. Fitz Roy, R.N. 2nd edition. John Murray, London.
Darwin’s account of the voyage, the environments, geology and wildlife he encountered, and comments on people. The book was dedicated to Charles Lyell.

The 3rd Voyage of the Beagle

Stokes, J.L. 1846. Discoveries in Australia; with an account of the Coasts and Rivers explored and surveyed during the Voyage of the H.M.S. Beagle, in the years 1837-38-39-40-41-42-43. Vol. I & II.
This includes a voyage to the north coast of Australia and the naming of Darwin Harbour.
